CWA’s From Glammies to Jammies Virtual Awards Event Viewing Details Announced

July 23, 2020 by Deb Barnes 1 Comment

The Cat Writers’ Association (CWA) is excited to announce their first-ever virtual communications contest awards ceremony, “From Glammies to Jammies,” to be held live, Saturday, August 8, 2020, from 7:00 – 10:00 pm, EST, to reveal contest winners from the 2019 communications contest period. The decision to hold a virtual ceremony was the result of canceling CWA’s 26th annual conference and awards banquet that was to be held July 16 -18 in Iselin, NJ at the APA Hotel due to COVID-19.

Deborah Barnes, CWA President, said, “We were heartbroken to cancel the conference, but with the current COVID landscape we had no choice. Holding a virtual awards ceremony, unprecedented for the CWA, was our way of finding a silver lining, giving people something to celebrate and look forward to in this upside-down world of ours. We felt the theme “From Glammies to Jammies” was a fun way people could watch the event, safely from their homes, whether dressed to the nines in sparkles and sequins or cozy in a comfortable pair of pajamas snuggled next to their favorite feline friend.”

The CWA, founded in 1992, began as a grassroots organization to support writers to help them provide relevant information about cats to the general public and has grown significantly in scope over the years, supporting talents in a wide variety of mediums – written, visual, and audio. The annual contest was created to honor the best of the best in the cat-writing industry and this year’s contest will present sixty-six MUSE™ Medallion Awards and twenty Special Awards with cash prizes totaling over $13,500!

Using popular Zoom video technology, the evening will feature dozens of industry known pet-related guest presenters, both pre-recorded and live, including Dr. Marty Becker, “America’s Veterinarian,” the founder of Fear Free Pets and sponsor of the Fear Free Pets Award and the Fear Free Cat Enrichment Award; along with Christopher Knight, best known for his role as Peter on the Brady Bunch as well as Christopher Knight Brands in partnership with International Veterinary Sciences, sponsor of the Christopher Knight Feline Grooming & Skin Care Award.

The CWA is also pleased to announce its fundraising event that was to be held for Tabby’s Place Cat Sanctuary in Ringoes, NJ, has not been canceled. Barnes states, “Just because we canceled our conference, did not mean efforts had to stop to help cats in need. Tabby’s Place is a wonderful organization that rescues cats from hopeless situations, with special needs cats the heart, and the soul of the organization. With them currently closed to the public, they will need help more than ever to fund their cage-free sanctuary that provides kitties with medical care, food, TNR needs, litter, toys, and so much more.”

During the ceremony, viewers can donate to Tabby’s Place with chances to win prizes from sponsors, Fear Free Pets, Pioneer Pet Products, Vital Essentials, MyLap Pet Bed, PetSafe, and Iris Scott Fine Art. CWA sponsors  CATalyst Council, Clawguard, Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat Products, Germinder + Associates, Goodnewsforpets.com, Goodnewsforpets Digital, Hartz, International Veterinary Sciences, Pet Sitters International, Pet Tree Houses, and World’s Best Cat Litter have also donated monies and product to Tabby’s Place, totaling over $12,000.

The virtual event is free and open to the general viewing public. To register and join the webinar, please click the link below:
